I am currently...: accomplished
I'm listening to: Monty Phyton's Spamalot
Me: I'll be preparing the food this weekend! Best way for me to keep dibs on my diet.
Grandma: Ok, whatever.
Me: *rummage rummage* Lesse... recipe-books. Hm, that one sounds nice! Mediterran kitchen. Kay, I got noodles and tomatoes and bell peppers and everything. I just need gyros-spice!
Grandma: Don't have any.
Me: Ok, no worries. I can do with Italian spices as well. Basil?
Grandma: Nope.
Me: Oregano?
Grandma: Nope.
Me: Thyme?
Grandma: Nope.
Me: ... Garlic?
Grandma: Nope.
Me: Marjoram maybe? Or at least paprika?
Grandma: ... I have parsley in the garden?
Me: D:
Grandma: And salt and pepper! And I think there's some of that yellow stuff around - curry?
Me: DDDDD: I'll make do...

(Note to self: Next time, bring spices with me. Blaaaand food. XDDD)

Turns out, she really doesn't have much spices in her kitchen. She doesn't need to, either - the way she cooks she usually has enough meat-juice to make sauces of and if not there are those just-add-water prepared sauces. Or she thickens the veggies with flour and butter. A lot.
Of course there are a few spices in her garden, but I'm not putting stuff like borage, mugwort or citron-grass into my tomato-sauce.

It's funny how our ideas of cooking is so vastly different. I use spices a lot to compensate for the lack of fat (butter, meat, cheese etc) as flavour carriers and she's all the traditional way of "you gotta eat good or you won't be strong enough to pull the plough." (which is usually the death of my diet plans)
Anyway, I made do. I simply raided our neighbour's garden of a few spices as well (with permission). Diet plans for the weekend: accomplished. Go me!

On other news: The Beach-Festival was as nice as ever. Music, the Festival of Lights, the fair, parade and waterplay accompanied by fireworks. I enjoyed it a lot. ^____^

Whoops, U's about to start. Gotta go!

Jâ nee!
